Maximizing Rewards on AirBnB Stays
Who loves AirBnB? These guys love AirBnB. And you probably do, too, if you’ve booked a stay through them. The homey touches, the epic properties, the low prices, what’s not to love? The only downside is that AirBnB doesn’t offer a rewards program. Good news is that there’s a great workaround. Today we’ll share some tips on maximizing your rewards on AirBnB stays.
Credit Card Offers
Many credit cards with companies like Amex and Chase will regularly send you offers you can add to your account. These tend to be cashback offers of anywhere from 1-10% back at certain restaurants or stores up to a certain amount. So far, I’ve only seen Chase offer rewards for AirBnB, and it’s for 5%, up to a ceiling of $28 back. Meaning you can use it on up to $560 worth of AirBnB stays! Just make sure you take note of the offer’s expiration date. This is also a ONE TIME ONLY deal, so use it on a good one! To find your Chase Offers section, log in to your Chase account and scroll down until you see “Chase Offers” on the left side of your screen under your different accounts and balances. See below:
Once you’re in your Chase Offers, select the card you want to apply the offers to and skim through. Find the stores you tend to frequent, or a restaurant you wanted to try out, and add it to your card! Again, check on that expiration date!
Delta Airlines AirBnB Portal
5% cashback is great. But it gets better. Delta Airlines also has an AirBnB partnership, where you can book through their site and get one Delta Skymile per dollar spent! When you combine these two offers, you’re getting that Skymile per dollar AND 5% cashback in the SAME PURCHASE (on top of the 3 points per dollar I get anyway for a travel purchase on my Chase Sapphire Reserve card!). This is called double or triple dipping, and it’s one of the best strategies you can use to maximize reward earnings.
I actually just booked a $439 AirBnB stay for November in Chattanooga, Tennessee split between friends (but I paid for it so I’d get the points! That’s how you really game the system, folks!). Let’s see how all those points add up:
- 3x points/dollar on Travel (Chase Sapphire) = 1317 points (worth $20)
- 5% cashback (Chase Sapphire) = $22 cashback
- 1x Delta Skymile through their portal = 439 Delta miles (worth $7.50)
- Altogether I got back almost $50 in value on that purchase!
When you use these tactics every time you book, you end up saving TONS of money and earning tons of points you can use on future trips and adventures. THIS is the secret behind how I get to travel so much despite a low income stream! Hope you learned something new about maximizing your rewards when you stay with AirBnB!
